Estuaries and lakes of the Sea of Azov
On the shores of the Sea of Azov are many lakes. On the west coast, most of them have lagoon origin, since they were formed by the movement of sediment, which separate some of the bays, turning them into a closed or semi-closed water bodies. On the east coast, especially in the delta of the Kuban, most of the lakes is the origin of the estuary - is filled with sea water and the mouth of the river valleys.
Priazovskoe biggest lake - Siwash, or Rotten Sea - a huge shallow lagoon, separated from the sea sand bar Arabatsky Arrow length of 112 km. In the northern part of the Strait of a thin braid is interrupted (Genichesky) with a width of about 150 m and a depth of 5 to 0.5 m on the northeastern shores of the Crimea Siwash forms a small semi-enclosed bays depth of less than 1 meter Siwash pouring Salgir River (the largest river of the Crimean ) Bulganovka, Dry and Wet indole, Churuksu, etc. Usually they dry up in summer. Due to the high temperature water and strong evaporation of water salinity Sivash reaches 200%. Here are extracted salt. Spring in the Sivash rapidly developing aquatic vegetation.
To the north-east of the Strait of large stretches of the Thin Utlyuksky estuary . This is not really the estuary, and the typical lagoon, formed after connecting the island to the shore Herald. But in the north of the estuary Utlyukskogo are two small bay estuary origin, which flow into a small river. The salinity of the estuary Utlyukskom in most cases is the same as in the Sea of Azov, and when strong westerly and south-westerly winds when water enters the bottom layers of Sivash, it rises.
About 7 km north-east of the estuary is Utlyukskogo Lake Dairy. This estuary, periodically connected to the sea. To the north it flows into the river Milk and two smaller rivers dry up in summer. Connection to the sea (three narrow strait in the southern part of the estuary) in the summer lowering the lake level is stopped and the salinity of the water in the lake is greatly increased. The lake is diluted mullet. West of the city of Taganrog is a freshwater estuary Miuss 31 km long and 1.2 km wide. In the north-eastern part of the estuary flows into the river Mius. Lyman wide strait connects the sea.
In most of the eastern shore of the Sea of Azov are almost continuous chain of coastal lakes and marshes. A number of small rivers do not flow directly into the sea, forming lagoons and marshes. Lakes connected with the sea in the spring. Receipt of river water in estuaries often stops because the lower reaches of the rivers dry. In such lakes in the summer salinity rises significantly. Some estuaries are wide open to the sea and the mouth are more like bays and the water in them, and in the summer of the same salty, as in the Sea of Azov. In the southern part of the coast, where the lakes and marshes of the delta of the Kuban - Kuban marshes - start thickets of reeds and other aquatic vegetation.
On the eastern shore of the Sea of Azov are Yeisky largest estuary, located in the southern part of the Gulf of Taganrog, in which periodically enter the river water to Her, and Beysugsky called Beisug River, which flows into it in the spring. Yeisky estuary is wide open to the sea. Beysugsky estuary separated from the sea Yasenskaya oblique, with two straits. On the northern bank of the estuary Beysugskogo The Khan is salty lake with the famous therapeutic mud sulfide. East of the lake Khan is a series of lakes and marshes, which are replenished in the spring of the waters of the river Chelbas.
Limani Akhtarsky-Kirpilskoy groups receive little spring water from rivers (Kirpili, etc.), from the arms of the Kuban River and the Sea of Azov. Kuban and Azov water supplies and other estuaries of the area. To the south of the Strait (the sleeve in the delta of the Kuban) is a series of lakes - Long estuary, firth Kurchansky, etc. To the west of the main branch of the Kuban River estuary is Ahtanizovsky.
On the Azov coast of the Kerch Peninsula are two small salt lakes - Aktashskoye and Chokrakskoe. The banks formed a second deposition Chokrakskoe the horizon, from the middle Miocene.
On the west coast of the Kerch Strait are two small lakes - Tobechik skoe and Churubashskoe - are located south and west of Kamyshburuna.
